Abstract

Intestinal malrotation is a congenital failure of the intestine rotation, especially the middle intestine during embryological development; usually occurs at 10th week of pregnancy. Intestinal malrotation occurs between 1: 500 live births. Malrotation is symptomatic in only 1: 6000 live births. Malrotation can occur with volvulus. This patient had total obstructive ileus as a complication of malrotation with volvulus. Surgery was performed immediately with exploratory laparotomy, Ladd procedure, mesenchym widening, derotation of the volvulus and incidental appendectomy. The growth and development up to the age of 4 months were good.
