Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a systemic disease with variable clinical features from mild symptoms with a good prognosis, to critically severe disease with high mortality. Currently, there is no specific treatment for this disease. It is crucial to find appropriate biomarkers to predict severity and prognosis, thus may reduce the mortality rate in COVID-19 patients. Increased procalcitonin, D-dimer, and serum ferritin levels can predict an increased deterioration risk in COVID-19 patients.
