The role of vitamin D in health is increasingly understood and explored in various studies, especially since the discovery of vitamin D receptors in various cells and body systems. Vitamin D compounds protect the skin against destructive effects of various skin-aging triggering agents, including ultraviolet radiation. Vitamin D also stimulates the formation of various antioxidant components with protective effect against skin aging process. Vitamin D is also a promoter of hair follicle differentiation. Therapy with vitamin D analogues is associated with the formation of hair follicles and increases the specific expression of various genes involved in hair growth
