Abstract

Congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) is the condition of a newborn with various defects caused by rubella virus during early pregnancy. The classic symptoms of CRS are deafness, cataracts, and congenital heart disease. Diagnosis is made at birth through history, physical examination of the eyes and hearing, and examination of rubella antibodies in asymptomatic infants. Treatment is supportive and long-term multidiscipline management. Prevention can be done by vaccination to mothers before pregnancy
