Abstract

Malnutrition is defined as an imbalance between nutritional intake and needs. This imbalance can be caused by increased energy and protein requirements and micronutrient deficiencies. Malnutrition in infants and children can lead to impaired growth and development and other outcomes. Malnutrition in children is more often found in hospitalization, while in infants it is more often found in premature infants. Malnutrition in infants and children need adequate nutrition; sometimes not adequately provided by oral and enteral nutrition. This condition needs parenteral addition or replacement.
