Streptococcus group A (GAS), or Streptococcus pyogenes, is a common cause of respiratory tract infections and skin infections in children. This organism can also cause invasive infections such as streptococcal toxic shock syndrome and necrotizing fasciitis, as well as complications and sequelae such as acute rheumatic fever, post-streptococcal acute glomerulonephritis, post-streptococcal reactive arthritis, and pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with Streptococcus pyogenes (PANDAS). The increased number of invasive and non-invasive SGA infections over the last few decades, particularly in children, with a peak at the end of 2022, has become a source of concern in several countries. Clinicians must aware of the wide range of clinical SGA infection, particularly in the pediatric population.
