Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the main cause of death in adults. Damage due TBI is divided into two types, primary and secondary brain injury. Hyperglycemia after head trauma is a secondary complication associated with poor clinical outcomes and increased mortality due to stress response, inflammation, diabetes, pituitary or hypothalamic dysfunction, surgery, and anesthesia. Hyperglycemia in this condition must be controlled because it increases the risk of adverse outcomes and death.
