Abstract

Cell-based therapies start to gain attention when Nobel prize in physiology/medicine was awarded to James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo in 2018 for their discovery in immune system’s T cell inhibition mechanism which is very valuable in immunotherapy. To date, cell-based therapies consist of two types of cells: immune cells and stem cells. Cell-based therapies are deemed future therapy in medicine, although their use are currently still in the research phase. This review is an overview and recent updates regarding cell-based therapies.
