Nefritis lupus (NL) merupakan salah satu komplikasi lupus eritematosus sistemik (LES) yang paling sering. Jika tidak cepat dideteksi, NL sering dapat menurunkan fungsi ginjal dalam 5 tahun, sehingga perlu terapi pengganti ginjal. NL didiagnosis dan diklasifikasi sesuai hasil biopsi ginjal. Terapi NL tergantung klasifikasi kelas histologi dan sebaiknya dipilih yang paling sesuai dengan kebutuhan pasien. Jika tidak terjadi remisi atau terjadi relaps, perlu dikaji kembali faktor-faktor penyebab dan mencari strategi untuk mengatasinya. Semakin cepat dilakukan terapi, maka semakin banyak sel nefron yang bisa diselamatkan untuk mencegah pasien jatuh ke penyakit ginjal kronik (PGK) stadium akhir.
