Abstrak

Melasma merupakan kelainan pigmentasi kulit kronis akibat terpapar sinar matahari. Melasma merupakan penyakit multifaktorial, berbagai jalur
dapat menginduksi hiperpigmentasi. Paparan sinar ultraviolet (UV) sebagai sumber spesies oksigen reaktif (ROS) dan radikal bebas turut berperan
pada patogenesis melasma. Mekanisme lain adalah pengaruh ROS pada proses melanogenesis dan sel melanosit serta jalur pengaturan sinyal
sintesis melanin. Konsentrasi antioksidan sebagai mekanisme pertahanan kulit terhadap ROS, yaitu superoksida dismutase (SOD), katalase, dan
glutation peroksidase, turut memengaruhi kejadian penyakit melasma.
