Peran Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha Sistemik pada Respons Imun Toksoplasmosis Okuler

Toksoplasmosis okuler (TO) merupakan infeksi paling umum penyebab uveitis posterior di dunia, disebabkan oleh parasit Toxoplasma gondii. Banyak sitokin seperti TNF-α, IL-6, dan IL-10 terlibat dalam perkembangan uveitis. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) adalah sitokin pro-inflamasi yang dilepaskan terutama selama respons inflamasi makrofag dan sel T, berfungsi memediasi aktivasi dan infiltrasi leukosit dan respons limfosit T helper (Th)1 di dalam jaringan. Peradangan makula akibat TO dapat menyebabkan gangguan penglihatan yang substansial. Pada uveitis, kadar TNF-α tinggi menyebabkan gangguan sawar darah retina. TNF-α memiliki peran sebagai regulator positif respons imun. Kadar TNF-α sistemik pada infeksi okuler terutama TO meningkat, yang dikaitkan dengan peningkatan respons inflamasi, yang berkontribusi terhadap kerusakan jaringan koroid dan retina pada pasien TO. Kadar TNF-α jaringan dan cairan intraokuler dapat bervariasi tergantung jenis dan keparahan infeksi. Deteksi TNF-α sistemik dapat menjadi penanda potensial biologis klinis toksoplasmosis okuler.
