Abstrak

Tumor otak memiliki prognosis buruk, karena meskipun telah ditemukan modalitas diagnostik dan terapeutik terbaru yang dapat meningkatkan luaran, rekurensi masih sering terjadi. Baru-baru ini, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (N(AL), yang berikatan dengan enzim matriks metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) membentuk kompleks N(AL/MMP-9, ditemukan berperan dalam proses perkembangan berbagai jenis keganasan. Substansi-substansi ini diketahui mendukung perkembangan tumor dengan cara mendegradasi membran basal dan matriks ekstraseluler, serta memungkinkan angiogenesis, invasi, dan metastasis tumor. Pada artikel ini, akan dibahas mengenai peran N(AL, MMP-9, dan N(AL/MMP-9 pada tumor otak.

 

Brain tumors usually have poor prognosis, because they often recurs although various diagnostic and therapeutic modalities have been created to improve outcomes. Recently, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (N(AL), which binds matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) enzyme, forms the N(AL/MMP-9 complex that is found to play a role in the development of malignancies. These substances are known to support tumor development by degrading the basal membrane and extracellular matrix, and allowing tumor angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. This article will discuss the role of N(AL, MMP-9, and N(AL/MMP-9 in brain tumors.
